Music School Opening Times
The School is open all year round except for the period between Christmas and New Year, and Bank Holidays. Occasionally there will be other times when the school will be closed, but you will always be notified well in advance if there will not be a lesson for you.
Instruments
The School is equipped with keyboards and electronic pianos for you to use. As well as guitars and amps. Most other instruments are available for hire if students do not have their own instrument. There is a charge of £3 per week to hire, plus a refundable deposit for the loan of the instrument.
Examinations
London College of Music (LCM), the Associated Board of the Royal School of Music (ABRSM), MTB, Trinity and Rockschool practical and theory examinations are available to everyone who wish to take them. The courses and examinations we offer are regulated and accredited by the QCA (Qualifications and Curriculum Authority) and are incorporated into the NQF (National Qualifications Framework) – your guarantee of quality. The higher examination grades also gain UCAS points, used to gain entry to Universities and Colleges.
Missed Lessons/Holidays
Our holiday period runs from 1st January to 31st December each year. Holiday entitlement equates to 6 weeks holiday per year for which the students can use against holidays, illness etc. as long as we are given at least 24 hours’ notice. If we are not given 24 hours’ notice, or you have used up your entitlement for the year, full lesson charges will apply for all missed lessons.
For students starting with us during the year, it is on a pro-rata basis of 1 week per month after completion of a calendar month.
However, for students attending lessons fortnightly, the entitlement is halved to 3 holidays per year.
Cover Teachers
Cover teachers will be provided should the teacher be absent. If you do not wish to take your lesson, this will either be classed as one of the following:
- As one of your holidays (as above), or;
- The full lesson fee will be payable.
Student Progress
The progress of each student is constantly monitored and, whilst we try to keep our class time the same, we will suggest an alternative if this is thought to be in your best interests. We will also endeavour to find another time slot for you if your allocated class time becomes inconvenient for you either occasionally or on a permanent basis. This is, of course, dependent on there being a suitable space on our timetable.
Lesson Durations
The length of a lesson depends on how many students are present. 1-2 Students = 30 minutes, 3 students = 40 minutes, 4+ Students = 50 minutes. If some members of your class are away, or extra members are present in your group, the time of the lesson will be adjusted accordingly.
Long Term Breaks From Lessons
If you find that you are unable to attend lessons for an extended period but wish to resume at a later date, you have the following option:
If you wish to keep your place and lesson time, you must pay for all missed lessons once your holiday entitlement has been used up. This way your place in the School and your class day and time are kept for you.
Leaving Bromsgrove School of Music
If you wish to terminate lessons at Bromsgrove School of Music, 4 weeks’ notice is required.
If you let us know on the day of your lesson, then only 3 further lessons will need to be paid for.
If we have been notified any day after the due lesson, there will be a further 4 weeks of lessons of which payment will be required.
